The son comes to his father and says: “My friend is sad because his father won’t take him to the
cinema. His father says the film is not for him”. The father says: “Okay, his father knows better. Older
people always know better than children. I know better than you what is best for you and your
mother also knows better than you, what is best for you and what you need.”
The son asks: “Is that always the case?”
Dad: “Yes.”
Son: “And who invented the light bulb?”
Dad: “Edison.”
Son: “Dad, how come his father didn’t do it, when adults know better than children?”
It doesn’t mean that just because we are older that we are more experienced and wiser. Parents
often think that they know better about their child than the child himself.
