A man walks through the desert and wants to get to know the desert and drinks his last sip of water
and a Bedouin comes and the man asks him for water. The Bedouin says: “No, I don’t have water, I
sell ties, but please buy these ties, they’re on sale today”. The man doesn’t want a tie, he wants
water. And the man goes further and climbs a dune and sees another Bedouin and asks him: “Please
give me some water”. The Bedouin says: “No, I don’t sell water. Here I have ties, they’re on sale
today, take the tie”, and the man says: “No, I need water” and walks further. He climbs the dune
again and sees an oasis and can’t believe he saw an oasis, he thinks it’s a mirage and goes down to
the oasis and when it’s really an oasis with water and people. The oasis was fenced and there was a
guard there and the man asks him if he can let him inside behind the fence into the oasis to get water
and the guard says to him: “Okay, I can let you in, but only if you have a tie”.
The point of the story: Take everything that comes your way in life, because you never know when
and where you will need that experience for certain other things (you need water, and they offer you
a tie) and it is no coincidence that it is precisely this that has come your way on your life’s journey to
your goal.
